We all want to achieve greatness, but to achieve greatness we need to set ourselves apart from everyone else who wants to achieve. You need to do extra and give it your all so you can show everyone else you want it more.
“Here we go Gabby, just remember everything we worked on.” My Dad expressed to me. I turned around and walked away with my bag that was filling up with nerves. “Okay Gabby no one knows you’re here, time to make them know you.” I thought to myself with such confidence while I walked in the parking lot to join my All-Star team in Colorado Sparkler tournament.
I looked around for my team, the Lemons South. There were girls from all over the US here! There was girls from Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, California, and other states. They were all chosen to play in the All-Star game in Colorado. I told myself that there will be going to be a lot of amazing competition here, but I knew I belonged here. My coach wouldn't have put me in this game if he didn't believe in me. So I went to work. First we all stretched in a circle, we were all awkward with each other at first but once we all started hitting and throwing we all started to feel like a unified team. Once we finished warming up, we had extra time because the game before us was running late so we all got to play a game called Pepper. After that game we played, everyone was coming out of their shell and started opening up to everyone.
Then finally, it was game time. I was finally going to be able to show off my skills in front of all these college coaches! I walked over to the paper that showed us where we will be playing. I was going to be playing right field, then I would be hitting sixth in the lineup. We got to be home team, so we took the field. Everything was going good the first few innings, then one of our players tried making a double play, but overthrew it big time! The bases were loaded and you could feel the panic everywhere. The ball was coming towards my side, but it was about to get past me, so I dove for the ball and I stop it, but then the ball popped out of my glove and hit my lip. My braces cut my lip and started to swell almost the size of two blueberries! I saved about two runs that play. The umpire called time to check on me. I told him I was OK but he told me to go in the dugout. When I got in the dugout the coaches told me that they were very impressed with my effort that I gave to stop the ball. As I came into the dugout, one doctor came up to me and looked at my lip. He told me it would heal in a couple of days and I just need to make sure to ice it heavy. Afterwards I sat out two innings and then continued to play. I was very proud of myself that I kept playing afterwards.

Sadly I didn't make the All-American team, but I know I made an impression on the coaches, not just with my great effort, but also with the great hits I had and my attitude towards the game. What I know for sure is I'm just on my road to greatness and this is only the beginning.
